PURPOSE:To prevent the formation of ice burn by orderly arranging a heater and a cooler on the upstream side of a drain port for water produced by defrosting and a fan and a cold storage member on the downstream side thereof and increasing the air volume of an air curtain with the aid of the blowing fan for a given period of time after finishing a defrosting operation. CONSTITUTION:When the operation of a cooler 11 is stopped to feed an electric current to a defrosting heater 10 and a blowing fan 9 is operated, air sucked into a cold air circulating passage 5 through an inlet port 8 is heated by the heater 10 to be converted into heated air and circulates through the circulating passage. During this circulation, frost deposited on the cooler 11 and on a cold heat storage member 12 thaws to be converted into water produced by defrosting, and the water is discharged outside a case through a drain port 14 by using a drain hose. When a temperature of heated air on the outlet side of the cooler 11 reaches a predetermined level, the supply of power to the defrosting heater 10 is stopped by a defrosting thermostat 15 to finish the defrosting operation. Then, a cooling operation is started and, by increasing the operational number of blowing fans or the number of rotations of the blowing fan 9 for a given period of time, the air volume of an air curtain, which crosses an opening 1 of the main body of the case 2, is increased to accelerate a temperature drop of air in a casing 6. As a result, ice burn at the lower end of the cooler can be prevented from being formed. |
