PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for using a perfluoropolyether phosphate for imparting water-and oil-repelling properties and adjusting a phosphate monoester and a phosphate diester to prescribed amounts, respectively. SOLUTION: This method for obtaining the mixture of the phosphate monoester with the phosphate diester comprises (a) adding 1 to 60 mol.%, especially 5 to 40 mol.%, of water to 1 equivalent of a perfluoropolyoxyalkylene structure-having monofunctional alcohol of the formula (I): Rf-CF2 -(CH2 )q -ZH (I) [Rf is a monofunctional perfluoropolyether chain, such as C2 F5 O; (q) is an integer of 1 to 20; Z is O-C2 H4 O, or the like], (b) reacting the reaction product obtained in the process (a) with phosphoric anhydride P2 O5 in a molar ratio of 1.5:1 to 4:1, especially 2:1 to 3:1, once to many times, (c) hydrolyzing the compound obtained in the process (b) with water or diluted hydrochloric acid, (d) optionally separating the organic layer with a solvent immiscible with water, and (e) recovering the product from the organic layer.
