PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve recording and reproducing characteristics by forming a substrate surface to a flat surface having no microruggedness. SOLUTION: A disk master formed with rugged patterns on one surface is formed by applying a photoresist to a substrate 2, subjecting this photoresist to exposure and development and transferring the same. The stamper is formed by etching the one surface side of the disk master, narrowing the width of the projecting parts constituting the rugged patterns and transferring the rugged patterns of the disk master formed narrow in the width of the projecting parts. The prescribed patterns are formed on the substrate of the optical disk by transferring the rugged patterns formed on the stamper.
