METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING HEAT-RESISTING MAT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a heat-resisting mat containing an organic binder which disappears by pyrolysis in an aluminous fiber mat compressed in the direction of the thickness, the manufacturing method being improved so that a heat-resisting mat containing the organic binder in a substantially homogeneous state and having a substantially homogeneous thickness, is obtainable. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a heat resisting mat comprises the first process in which an aluminous fiber mat is impregnated with an organic binder liquid, the second process in which the aluminous fiber mat impregnated with the organic bender liquid is compressed in the direction of the thickness, and the third process in which the medium liquid of the organic binder liquid is removed while keeping the thickness of the compressed aluminous fiber mat as it is. An aqueous dispersion of an organic binder having a surface tension of >=25 dyn/cm determined at 25 deg.C is used as the organic binder liquid.
