PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monitor control method and system for node devices interconnected via a terminal line and an ATM network and a node device where monitor control is quickly applied to a fault in a monitor line before the fault is recovered. SOLUTION: When a prescribed node device detects a fault in a monitoring line, the prescribed node device generates a loopback cell with terminal line information given thereto and transmits the resulting cell to node devices whose monitoring is disabled resulting from the faulty monitoring line, transmits the cell while sequentially changing the terminal line information until a reply is received from the node devices whose supervision is disabled, stores the terminal line information when receiving a reply from the node devices whose monitoring is disabled and transmits the loopback cell for revision of the monitor line with the terminal line information given thereto to the node devices whose monitoring is disabled to inform the node devices whose monitoring is disabled about the revision of the monitor line.
