A formable composite, usually in sheet form, which has a variable percentage of one or both sides of a formable material covered in key material areas forming discontinuous patterns of keying areas. This discontinuous key material enables the bonding or joining of other materials either as a reinforcing or a form holding structure or a joining method to the formable composite. The formable composites comprising discontinuous keying layers may be vacuum formed.
