<p>A method and system for enabling a management system (100) to learn at least one requirement of a previously unknown function. The management system (100) includes a server (106) which stores a list (109) of types of devices, as well as configurations and settings for these devices. If the device (102) attempts to initiate an unknown function, the server (106) interrogates the device (102) for an identification of pertinent information such as settings or configuration information. The device (102) then sends the requested identification information to the server (106). After receiving the information, the server (106) adapts to allow for effective execution of the previously unknown function. Alternatively, the server (106), upon determining that the function is not known, can contact an Internet server of the manufacturer of the device to request the pertinent information. In response, the server (106) receives the requested information and adapts accordingly.</p> |
