[Also in Divisions C2 and G2] The invention relates to a dye of the formula wherein Z completes a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring, the hetero atom(s) being N, O, S or Se atom(s), e.g. benzthiazole, pyridine-thiazole; m is 0 or 1; Ar is an aromatic radical which may be substituted; n is 0, 1 or 2; R is alkyl,aralkyl or aryl, all of which may be substituted, e.g. with SO 3 H, or carboxyl, alkoxycarbonyl or carbamoyl; L 1 , L 2 and L 3 are each methine or substituted methine; p is 0 or 1; A is arylene which may be substituted, e.g. with Cl or MeO; and Y is H, OH, alkoxy, amino, substituted amino, e.g. cyanoethylamino or sulphonato ethyl amino or alkylthio ; the dye containing at least one sulpho group in acid or salt form. A list of preferred dyes is given. The dyes may be prepared by condensing a compound of formula with a compound of the formula where q is 0 or 1, but is 0 when p is 1. |
