There is disclosed an apparatus (210, 220, 261) for interconnecting a plurality of communications mediums (231, 232, 233, 234, 241, 242, 243), including voice frequency and broadband frequency to a subscriber communications system (100) at the subscriber's premises (121). The apparatus (210, 220, 261) comprises: 1) a controller (310) for coupling and de-coupling communications mediums comprising at least one public service telephone network (PSTN) line (602) and at least one non-public service telephone network (non-PSTN)line (506), to a communication system (251, 252, 253) within the subscriber's premises (121); 2) lightning protection (503) for controller interfaces; 3) a detector circuit (507) for detecting power loss in the non-public service telephone network connection (506) and 4) fail-over (re-connecting to an alternate circuit) devices (502) connected to a public service telephone network line (602); and 5) a test circuit (512, 514, 513, 516, 517, 518) for monitoring the condition of a backup power supply (261) for the apparatus (210, 220, 261). |
