A piezoelectric vibration element using zinc oxide as a piezoelectric material, wherein ratio Le/H between an exciting electrode length Le and a vibration element thickness H is optimized to thereby eliminate unnecessary resonance called an inharmonic overtone; a piezoelectric vibration element providing as main vibration a thickness-direction longitudinal vibration in which a polarizing direction is in the thickness direction of a piezoelectric plate, or a piezoelectric vibration element providing as main vibration a thickness-direction sliding vibration in which a polarizing direction is in the length-wise direction of a piezoelectric plate, wherein Le/H is set to be at least 4 and up to 100 to eliminate unnecessary resonance between a main vibration resonance frequency and an anti-resonance frequency, thereby providing stable characteristics.
