The light distributor (21) has a one-piece distributor element (31), provided as a plate incorporating a number of holes (31d) for passage of light, each surrounded by an upstanding edge (31e), each hole having a diameter which widens out from the light entry side to the light exit side. The distributor element can be combined with a diffuser (33). An Independent claim for a method for a room lighting unit provided with a light distributor is also included.
