Coating or adhesive compositions containing (1) copolymers of (a) 10 to 95% of a polymerisable ester of acetylacetic acid. CH3COCH2COOYOCOCR=CH2, where Y is a C2-10 hydrocarbon and R is H or CH3; (b) 5 to 90% of a C1-20 ester of (meth)acrylic acid and/or vinyl benzene and (c) 0 to 30% of another ethylenically unsaturated monomer; (2) acetylacetonates of polyvalent metals and (3) solvents, additives etc. - Hard, transparent coatings are obtained which are resistant to weathering and to chemicals including the parent solvents acetyl acetone and ethyl acetoacetate. this chemical stability is superior to that of other polymer/chelate compositions (BR 791, 325 and 807,198). - The mechanical properties and the chemical resistance are further improved by autoxidation of the coating and trace metals may be added as catalysts.
