PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable communication apparatus which allows the size of a liquid crystal display panel to be greatly increased, compared with the conventional one. SOLUTION: The receiver to be mounted in a portable telephone 100 (portable communication apparatus) adopts a balanced armature type electromagnetic receiver 10 which has a low power consumption and a high electro-acoustic conversion efficiency and ensures a required output power even with a small- sized structure. This allows the space of the portable telephone occupied by the receiver 10 to be greatly reduced, compared with the conventional portable telephone 200B having a mounted electrokinetic type receiver 2. The receiver 10 is mounted with its long wall surface set parallel to the top side edge of a liquid crystal display panel 104, this allowing the display panel 104 to be greatly expanded to the top side.
