PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nickel hydroxide, having superior output properties as a positive electrode active material, for an alkaline storage secondary battery and a method of accurately, quickly and easily sorting favorable one of a raw material powder of the nickel hydroxide, as the positive electrode active material. SOLUTION: There is correlation between the spectrum profile of the nickel hydroxide and the output property of the alkaline storage secondary battery; the nickel hydroxide, which shows that the content of sulfate ions is 0.3 wt.% or less, and a peak intensity ratio is 70 or less at a peak near 306 cm<-1> , 55 or less at a peak near 511 cm<-1> and 260 or less at a peak near 3581 cm<-1> , in terms of a peak intensity of 100 near a wave number of 443 cm<-1> in Raman spectroscopy, is set as the raw material for the positive electrode active material. |
