PURPOSE: A centering circuit is provided to secure a low-priced potentiometer by reducing the base voltage of a Darlington transistor. CONSTITUTION: A deflection apparatus with a raster positioning arrangement comprises a deflection winding(LY); a deflection circuit output stage(104) for generating a deflection current(iy) in the deflection winding; an inductance(452) coupled to the deflection winding for generating an alternating current(i500) in the inductance at a frequency related to a frequency of the deflection current; a rectifier(D60) coupled to the inductance for conducting at least a portion of the inductance current, when the inductance current is at a first polarity; and a first transistor coupled to a switching, second transistor in a Darlington configuration. The second transistor is coupled to the inductance for conducting at least a portion of the inductance current, when the inductance current is at an opposite polarity.
