A process for controlling breathing air flow in a breathing apparatus for the assisted or controlled breathing of a patient, comprises using a breathing tube, e.g. a tracheal or tracheotomy tube, which is inserted in the trachea of the patient. The tube has an inflatable cuff and a lumen which extends from the distal to the proximal tube ends. The breathing air pressure is determined by the continual or intermittent monitoring of the intra-cuff pressure, and the air flow is controlled accordingly. |
