BENZOFURAN DERIVATIVES

The invention relates to substituted benzofuran derivatives, a method for the production thereof and the use of the same as pharmaceuticals for treating Alzheimer's disease, cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. The effectiveness of the compounds is associated with decreasing serum cholesterol. Said derivatives correspond to formula (I) wherein Z represents O, S, SO, SO2, CH2, CHF, CF2 or NR8; R8 represents hydrogen or (C1-C4) alkyl; R5 and the two carbon atoms of the phenyl ring form a saturated or unsaturated furan ring which is optionally identically or differently substituted once or twice; R7 represents hydrogen or a cation or a group, preferably such as alkyl or acetyl, which can be split under physiological conditions during the formation of an OH function.
