A device for the detachable mounting of workpieces is disclosed, comprising a backing plate (2) with a holder (3) for fixing a workpiece and an endplate (5), for connecting in a supporting manner to a machining device for the machining of the workpiece. A hydraulically- or pneumatically-operated piston (11), a ball-bearing case (15), with ball-bearings arranged therein in a manner such as to be displaceable relative to the holder, by means of the piston, are arranged between the backing plate and the endplate as means for transferring the tensioning force, along with at least one spring (19), working against the tensioning force. The backing plate (2) comprises a one-pieced centring region (21) with an annular form and co-operating with the holder (3).
