PURPOSE: A polymeric light emitting substance, its preparation method, a complex, its preparation method, a polymer light emitting device, and a light source and a display containing the light emitting device are provided, to enable a light emitting layer to be formed by industrially simple application method such as a spin coating, an ink-jet method and a printing method. CONSTITUTION: The polymeric light emitting substance has a polystyrene reduced number average molecular weight of 10¬3 to 10¬8, and comprises a metal complex structure showing the light emission from the triple excited state in a main chain or a side chain. Preferably the polymeric light emitting substance comprises at least one repeating unit represented by -Ar1-(CR1=CR2)n-, and at least one repeating unit having a metal complex structure showing the light emission from the triple excited state, wherein Ar1 is an arylene group or a divalent heterocyclic group; R1 and R2 are independently H, an alkyl group, an aryl group, a monovalent heterocyclic group or a cyano group; and n is 0 or 1. The complex is represented by (L)o-M-(Ar)m-X, wherein L is a ligand; M is a metal having an atomic number of 50 or more; Ar is a polymer-connected ligand connected with M via at least one N, O, C, S or P; m is an integer of 1-5; o is an integer of 0-5; and X is a halogen atom, an arylsulfonyloxy group or an alkylsulfonyloxy group. |
