PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for producing a polyester having good color tone (b-value), scarcely containing foreign matters and excellent in stability in a melting state, and a method for producing the polyester by using the same. SOLUTION: This method for producing a polyester comprises carrying out polycondensation reaction of a starting raw material for polymerization composed of an alkylene glycol ester of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and/or an oligomer thereof by using a reaction product of a titanium component containing a titanium compound and/or a titanium compound obtained by reaction of the titanium compound with a polyhydric carboxylic acid or its anhydride with a phosphorus compound component as a catalyst.
