PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polyvinyl acetate resin emulsion without causing descoloration which is excellent in the control of emulsion polymerization and the polymerization stability and which has significantly small content of formaldehyde. SOLUTION: The method is characterized in that, in emulsion polymerization of a vinyl acetate using a vinyl alcohol polymer with a saponification value of 70 mol% or more as a dispersant, a hydrogen peroxide of 0.01-1 pts.wt. with respect to all monomer of 100 pts.wt., a tartaric acid and/or its metal salt of 0.1-1 mol with respect to the hydrogen peroxide of 1 mol and an iron compound of 1-50 ppm with respect to all monomer are used and emulsion polymerization is performed after adjusting pH of a polymerization system to 3-7.
