Method for operating a generator in a vehicle

The method proposes that when performing a cold start the generator is disconnected from the vehicle auxiliary supply system. Then after a set time the exhaust emission data is checked to check that the catalytic converter is fully operative before connecting the generator in steps to the auxiliary equipment. If the converter is not operative the check is repeated until successful. An alternative but more costly method would be initially to mechanically uncouple the generator from the engine.
