PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To excellently damp vibration of a bridge girder at a low dost. SOLUTION: This vibration damping device 16 is provided with a housing 18 arranged integrally deformably with the bridge girder 10, a collision mass 22 arranged freely movably in the vibration damping direction of the bridge girder 10 to the housing 18 for colliding against the housing 18 in damping the vibration, a clearance arranged between the housing 18 and the collision mass 22 for freely moving the collision mass 22 in the vibration damping direction, and an elastic body formed on a working face at least one of the housing 18 and the collision mass 22 in the vibration damping direction. The vibration damping device 16 is mounted to the bridge girder 10 for damping its vibration.
