PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an absorption refrigerating machine, and its operating method, in which deterioration of performance of a palladium cell functioning as an H2 gas discharging unit can be judged, unnecessary replacement of a palladium cell exhibiting normal performance can be prevented and thereby the lifetime of the palladium cell can be prolonged. SOLUTION: The absorption refrigerating machine comprises an extractor (4) for evacuating the inside of the absorption refrigerating machine (2) employing an aqueous solution of lithium bromide as a working fluid, an extraction tank (6) for storing gas sucked from the inside of the absorption refrigerating machine (2) by the extractor (4), a palladium cell (10) for discharging gas in the extraction tank (6) to the outside, means (7) for measuring the pressure (P) in the extraction tank (6), and a control means (11) for predicting the lifetime of the palladium cell (10) from the measurements of the pressure measuring means (7). The control means (11) comprises means (C2) for determining the variation of pressure in the extraction tank (6), means (C23) for determining fatigue of the palladium cell (10) from the pressure variation, means (C24) for integrating the determined fatigue, and means (C25) for comparing the integrated value of fatigue with a reference value.
