PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus for forming different pixel densities with the use of a plurality of light beams without carrying out a highly accurate position control. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus is constituted of a controller part 1 for sending out a pixel density signal and an imaging start signal by respective predetermined timings to a laser write control circuit 20, an interface 21 for delivering data to the controller part 1 via a bus 12, a control part 26 for controlling the laser write control circuit 20 based on data from the interface 21, an LD selection circuit 22 for selecting LDs 2-4, and an LD power change- over circuit 24 for setting an optimum beam power corresponding to the selected LD, LD control circuits 5-7 for carrying out modulation according to LD modulation data, LDs 2-3 for generating laser beams, an output abnormality detection circuit 23 for monitoring an output of the LD, and a polygon motor control circuit 9 for setting an imaging condition such as a speed of rotation of a polygon mirror 33 (polygon motor 8) and a modulation frequency of the LD in accordance with the pixel density.
