PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correct various picture patterns to sufficiently compensate for write failures. SOLUTION: When the frequency in write to a pixel is three or more (determination 1: S4) and the frequency in write to each of five lines preceding the pixel is two or less (determination 2: S5), pixels in these 5 preceding lines are taken as the object of signal correction. Movement of an image from a preceding field is detected (determination 3: S6) with respect to pixels taken as the object of signal correction, and a part which is judged to be not a movement part is subjected to correction (processing 1: S7) which increases the frequency in write by at most once, and a part which is determined to be a movement part is subjected to correction (processing 2: S8) which increases the frequency in write by at most twice.
