[Also in Division C3] A hydrocarbon containing a carbon-tocarbon multiple bond is polymerized with a catalyst comprising a crystalline synthetic aluminosilicate zeolite having the X-ray powder diffraction pattern given in the parent Specification 1,117,568. The zeolite known as Z5M-4 has the composition M 2 O/n: Al 2 O 3 :6- 15 SiO 2 : 0-5 H 2 O wherein M is a cation other than an alkali metal, e.g. one or more of H, NH 4 , rare earth metal, Zn and Mg, and n is the valence of M. The polymerization may be effected at -150‹ to +660‹ F. and 0À25-1000 atmospheres. Examples describe the oligomerization of 1-butene, a mixed butane-butene stream, 1-decene, propylenetetramer, 2,4,4, trimethyl - 1 - pentene and α - methyl styrene. Other monomers mentioned are isobutene, propene, a pentene, conjugated diolefins, allenes, triolefins, cyclopentene, methylcyclohexene, cyclooctadiene, vinylcyclohexene and acetylenes. |
