The process comprises (1) reforming a mxiture contg. a hydrocarbon gas, such as natural gas, and O2, water vapour, CO2, or their mixtures, as oxidant, to produce a first reformed effluent; (2) mixing at least part of this product with hot CO2 to give a second mixture and (3) reforming this to produce a second effluent contg. a high proportion of CO in relation to the H2 content.
