A cleaning unit for removing residual toner from a photoreceptor. The cleaning unit has a cleaning blade formed of a plurality of plate materials adhered to each other, the plurality of plate materials including a first blade member and a second blade member each of which is mounted on a support member. The impact resilience of H1 of the first blade member and impact resilience of H2 of the second blade member satisfy the conditionof 0.1H2<H1. In use, the first blade member is brought into contact with the photoreceptor and the second blade member is not brought into contact with said photoreceptor.
