Preparation of silicic acid gel containing incorporated active charcoal. B6A. Comprises (i) suspending active charcoal in a silicic acid hydrosol obtained by ion exchange from sodium silicate (ii) gelling the suspension spontaneously or by the addition of a trace of an organic salt (esp. an ammonium salt) and (iii) drying and activating the resulting hydrogen at 105-130 C. Final product is very pure, homogeneous and contns. no more than a trace of contaminating inorganic salts. Use is suitably as absorbents in chromatography.
