PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a π cell liquid crystal device which improves the luminance and response rate of a device by evading twisting. SOLUTION: This π cell liquid crystal device includes a layer of a nematic liquid crystal material arranged between 1st and 2nd alignment layers; and the 1st and 2nd alignment layers induce adjacent liquid crystal materials to pretilt so that when no electronic field is applied, energy in an H state becomes smaller than energy in a V state and an H state and the energy in the V state is less than the energy un the T state and a driving constitution element selectively applies a 1st electric field where the energy in the V state is smaller than the energy in the H and T states and a 2nd electric field which is smaller than the 1st electric field and where the energy in the H state is smaller than the energy in the V state and T state to at least one area of the layers. |
