ELECTROPHORETIC APPARATUS

An apparatus for performing a plurality of blots such as Western, Northern or Southern blots is disclosed in which each the blots are performed inside a container. The apparatus includes a multi-channel power supply comprising a common power supply supplying DC voltage in parallel to a plurality of computer controlled conversion modules. Each power conversion module includes a control means arranged to control the output of that module independently of the output of the other power conversion modules. The apparatus defines a housing arranged to receive a plurality of cassettes. Each cassette defining a pair of spaced apart electrodes and external contacts for supplying electric current of those electrodes. Each cassette is individually addressible by the apparatus such that a different voltage and current may be supplied to one cassette than to another cassette in the unit. The cassette has a thermally conductive base, an electrode depending into the container from the top of the cassette, and electrical contacts for supplying current to the lower electrode and upper electrode, said contacts being defined on the exterior to the cassette.
