PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an instrument and method for measuring the suspended state of slurry by which the concentration of particles in a sample can be measured with high accuracy. SOLUTION: The suspended state measuring instrument for slurry includes at least one current (magnetic field) detecting means which is provided in the circumference of a fluid, a means which oscillates the particles in the fluid by impressing a sound field or electric field upon the fluid in a non-contacting state, and a means which detects the current caused by the particles by means of the current (magnetic field) detecting means without coming into contact with the fluid. The instrument also includes a means which relates the signal generated from the current (magnetic field) detecting means to the concentration of the particles in the fluid.
