PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fusion splicing method in which connection loss in the fusion splicing of an optical fiber having a large coating diameter of a core fiber can be estimated from estimated loss. SOLUTION: In the method in which the core fiber coatings 15a, 15b of optical fibers 11a, 11b are clamped with V-grooved bases 16a, 16b, abutted on each other, and fusion-spliced by electrical discharge heating, the optical fibers having different core fiber coating diameters 15a, 15b are fusion spliced. After that, the inclinationθg of glass fibers 12a, 12b is measured from the observation image 18 of the fusion spliced part, with the connection loss estimated and an acceptability on the connection is judged. |
