PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for cutting work and its device preventing damage to a cutting tool due to constriction during cutting. SOLUTION: A cutter 1 performs the cutting work of a workpiece W by a cutting tool T and is provided with a control device 57 automatically controlling the cutting tool T, the cutter 1 is provided with a cutting tool moving amount detector 53 detecting the moving amount of the cutting tool T, and the cutter 1 is characterized by providing in the control device 57 an input/ output device 61, a constrictional position memory 65 leaving a preset constriction position L of the workpiece W as stored, a comparison determination device 67 comparing and determining the actual moving amount of the cutting tool T detected by the cutting tool moving amount detector 53 with the constrictional position stored in the constrictional position memory 65, and a command part 69 for temporarily stopping the cutter 1 when the actual moving amount of the cutting tool T from the end face of the workpiece W is conformed to the constructional position L in the comparison determination device 67.
