A shuttle exchanger exchanges a shuttle circulating in a re-entrant lumen by actuating a channel selector to alter the path of a shuttle to be exchanged. Following the altered path the to-be-exchanged shuttle impinges on a shuttle stored in a storage channel and drives it into the re-entrant loop while the to-be-exchanged shuttle is retained in the storage channel.
