PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a leathery sheet material always stably generating negative ions in a stationary state without applying an external force. SOLUTION: This leathery sheet material comprises at least one layer of a synthetic resin layer obtained by coating or impregnating a fibrous substrate with a synthetic resin composition comprising a powder generating the negative ions and solidifying the synthetic resin composition. The powder generating the negative ions is (1) a mixed powder of a tourmaline powder (specific gravity A, average particle diameter a) with a powder of a zirconium compound (specific gravity B, average particle diameter b) except an electrofused and stabilized zirconium obtained by compounding 100 pts.wt. of the tourmaline powder with 100Bb<3> /3Aa<3> to 1,000Bb<3> /Aa<3> pts.wt. of the powder of the zirconium compound except the electrofused and stabilized zirconium or (2) a mixed powder of the tourmaline powder (specific gravity A, average particle diameter a) with the electrofused and stabilized zirconium powder (specific gravity C, average particle diameter c) obtained by compounding 100 pts.wt. of the tourmaline powder with 25Cc<3> /Aa<3> to 1,000Cc<3> /Aa<3> pts.wt. of the electrofused and stabilized zirconium powder.
