Nitriles produced by the vapour-phase catalytic reaction of olefins, oxygen and ammonia, are purified by contacting them with activated adsorbents selected from alumina, silica, attapulgite, sepiolite or montmorillonite to remove basic heterocyclic compounds therefrom. The activation of the adsorbents may be effected by heating in a molecular-oxygencontaining gas at 150‹ to 350‹ C. |
