PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cooling method and a cooling device for cast slab with which in a continuous casting facility used for both of a bloom and a billet, i.e., casting multi-sizes of cast slabs, the cast slab surface temperature at a correcting part can avoid a brittle temperature zone in any size. SOLUTION: In the cooling method for cast slab 4 in the multi-size continuous casting facility used for both of the bloom and the billet, this cooling method and the cooling device have the peculiarity, in which one or more of heat- holding covers are provided at the upstream side of a correcting device 9 and the upper surface cover 7a of the heat holding cover 7 can be opened/closed and the cast slab upper surface side temperature at the above correcting device part can be controlled to be in the high temperature region or the low temperature region of the brittle-fracture-generating temperature zone by deciding the opening/closing of the upper surface cover 7a of the each heat holding cover 7 according with the cast slab size.
