A method of replacing a building element in a wall comprises removing the covering strips (11) and disengaging the element to be replaced (C) as well as surrounding elements (B) and (D) from the frame. Elements (B) and (D) decline relative to the frame to allow element (C) to be removed and the new element to be fitted in. The elements (B) and (D) then decline back to become co-directional with the frame and the covering strips are refitted. The building elements comprise a thermally insulating core section covered by two surface plates which have a male tongue-and-groove on one edge and a female tongue-and-groove on the other edge. A mechanical limiter(s) (8) is provided during replacement to limit the degree of inclination of the building elements.
