The invention relates to a wood waste compost employed especially in vegetable- and flower-growing and in forestry, and to the process for preparing the same. The compost consists of wood dust in a ratio of 100 % or of wood dust mixed with 30...40 % bark, to which 100...150 kg of vegetable residual ash, sludge resulted from the purification of waste water or coarse liquid dejections in a weight ratio of 1/1, and optionally, 50...100 kg of rumen content and 0.1...0.2 0/00 biopreparation from selected microbial cultures or only 0.1...0.2 0/00 biopreparation from selected microbial cultures are added, depending on the temperature reached during fermentation. The fermentation period ends after at least 4 months, the compost having a content of 75...90 % organic material, 0.5...1.0 % total nitrogen and a pH value varying from 6.5 to 7.5. The process for preparing the wood waste compost consists of several steps in which the material components are added and mixed mechanically, and the parameters required for the fermentation process are ensured.
