PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems of the requirement for making a CPU operate and rewrite display color data stored in a memory for display in the case of changing the display color of a character, the CPU is loaded and other data processings are delayed in the conventional screen display device. SOLUTION: The screen display device is provided with a RAM 21 for character codes stored with address at which the font data of a display object character are stored inside a ROM 9 for the characters, a RAM 22 for the display color provided with a plurality of RAM units i, having the same array constitution as the RAM 21 for the character codes and an address counter 23 which successively select the RAM unit i to supply the display color at each prescribed interval of time.
