PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a designer who is inexperienced in the retrieval of patent information to easily and exactly retrieve objective patent information. SOLUTION: A searcher who is experienced in a retrieval method previously narrows information on a field to be retrieved. A narrowed information group is stored as a patent information database 21 by adding classification. An index is constructed with respect to stored narrowing information. The same word which extends over different fields and is in the field other than the pertinent field is removed by index construction. The designer performs secondary retrieval by a keyword with a retrieval means 26 after corresponding classification is designated. Since the retrieval is performed by using the information group which is previously narrowed by the searcher, the designer who is inexperienced in retrieval can easily and exactly retrieve objective patent information.
