The device has a controller (42) that detects the presence of a gas bubble in a fuel feed (12) based on a defined change in the signal of a flame monitor (40) so that the flame monitor also acts as a gas bubble detector. The fuel feed has a fuel pump (20) and the controller detects the gas bubble after it has passed the pump. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method of controlling a vehicle heater; (2) a vehicle with an inventive device.
