PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating apparatus and a coating method, by which a thick coated part is effectively eliminated and a coating bead is surely formed in the starting of coating. SOLUTION: The coating apparatus and coating method is provided with a coating material-to-be-coated transportation means, a coating means arranged in the vicinity of the transported surface of the material to be coated and for applying a coating liquid on at least one side surface of a material to be coated by discharging the coating liquid belt-likely to coat the surface of the material to be coated and forming a coating liquid bridge between the coating means and the material-to-be-coated transported by the material-to-be-coated transportation means and a gas flow blowing means for blowing gas toward the part of the material to be coated, where the coating liquid starts to be applied, from a direction almost opposite to the transportation direction of the material to be coated at a specified flow rate P just after the coating material starts to be applied. |
