PURPOSE:To provide the color image processing method and its device in which color image data are efficiently coded while suppressing deterioration in image quality. CONSTITUTION:A color/black white area discrimination section 81 divides received color image data into blocks of 16X16 picture elements to check whether or not each block is a color area or a black/white area. As for a block of the color area, the block is sampled at a prescribed sampling ratio and DC transformation, linear quantization and entropy coding are applied to the block. On the other hand, as for a block of a black/white area, only a Y component of color components Y, Cr, Cb being components of color image data is subjected to DCT transformation, linear quantization and entropy coding. |
