PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spinning reel for fishing, capable of allowing the position of a handle to be changed to right and left sides, and capable of improving transmission efficiency by decreasing an offset amount of a spool shaft and a handle shaft without decreasing the strengths of the two shafts. SOLUTION: This spinning reel for fishing is characterized in that a portion of the handle shaft 2 at which the handle shaft crosses the spool shaft is formed into a small diameter part 2a having the outer diameter set so as to be smaller than those of other portions of the handle shaft 2, and the handle 5 is not extended in the handle shaft so as not to cross the crossing part of the spool shaft 9 and the handle shaft 2.
