PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming a pearl gloss coating film capable of obtaining a coating film developing a design looked so that the hue change boundary part of a highlight part right-angled in a light incident direction and a shade part oblique with respect to the light incident direction gently changes accompanied by achromatic tinting ('achromatic tinting pearl gloss'), and a coated article obtained by the method. SOLUTION: In the method for forming the pearl gloss coating film, a color base coating film layer is formed on a base material and an interference clear coating layer containing an interference pigment is subsequently formed on the color base coating film layer and a matte top clear coating layer containing achromatic tinting resin fine particles as a matting agent is further formed thereon.
