SOLUTION: By controlling the driving duty of a light source, so that the read level of each of color read image signals can become a prescribed value, the read result of a color original can be made suitable, and by finely controlling the parameter of image processing in a sub-scanning direction depending on pulse widths Pr, Pg and Pb correspondent to the driving duty, an effect is obtained enabling a color image of a higher image quality can be provided.
