PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an AV unit that can stop supply of power to a video signal processing section when a player reproduces a disk on which only an audio signal is recorded. SOLUTION: A video input selection circuit 3 selects a video signal from a video input terminal 1, and outputs the video signal to a video output terminal 12 through an amplifier 9, a character synthesis section 10 and an output amplifier 11. An audio input selection circuit 4 selects an audio signal from an audio input terminal 2 and an output amplifier 6 amplifies the audio signal. Furthermore, a video signal detection section 16 receives the selected video signal to discriminate whether the input signal is a still image signal or a moving image signal. When no video signal exists, supply of power to the amplifier 9, the character synthesis section 10 and the output amplifier 11 is stopped.
